Bette grippingly fusing the soul, rock & roll, funk, blues, and gospel music she heard in her Brooklyn youth into something all her own and unleashing it on stage. Add to that legendary disco-centric DJs NICK HALKES, KEITH LAWRENCE & DJ DEKAYNE taking us to REACH UP DISCO WONDERLAND in ROOM 2 and you know we mean business at PECKHAM LEVELS.

“It was culturally alive and it still is. There were a lot of block parties in the summer. They would import bands from Memphis and Mississippi and us brown and black girls would be jamming to these groups,” says Bette Smith, as she walks around the neighborhood of her upbringing, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY.

She’s just back from the UK where she made her new album ‘Goodthing’ (July 12, 2024 / Kartel Music Group) with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, James Blunt, James Bay, Anonhi & The Johnsons, Sia, Corinne Bailey Rae, Tina Turner). Hogarth attests, “Bette is the real deal. Her delivery is the truth and comes straight from the heart. She is able to communicate with ease with her wonderful gift of a voice and I was delighted to work on this record.”

Bette’s on the cusp of a new chapter, with an album that is poised to take over airwaves fire and wide and seems sure to find her a much wider audience in the days to come.

Blessed with a voice described as “raspy,” “sassy,” “raunchy” and “sweet ’n soulful,” Bette grippingly fuses the soul, rock & roll, funk, blues, and gospel music she heard in her Brooklyn youth into something all her own. Yet, ‘Goodthing’ is no retro album.

ROOM 2: The South London Soul Train 2 room line up completed in ROOM 2 by too damn hot SLST residents NICK HALKES, KEITH LAWRENCE + special guest DJ DEKAYNE, here to take you to REACH UP DISCO WONDERLAND. The heavyweight trio dropping 80’s boogie, soul, funk, disco and proto house, evoking the spirit and dipping into the soundtrack of legendary NYC clubs such as 'Paradise Garage’ & 'Studio 54’. A night highlighting the sounds that emerged as the 70’s, turned into the 80’s and the DNA of club music as we know it today was being written. The dance floor awaits.

The South London Soul Train Halloween Special, both room taking all passengers on a Non-Stop Magical Mystery Tour through all things Too Damn Funky. P-Funk to Jazz Funk, Soul Jazz to Rare Groove N’ Stax, Brass, Breaks, Bop and Hop to Motown, Club Classics and Anthems.

However - Passengers are requested to check their Souls at the Station as this one's for good time party people only! No Bass Wobbles Here, Only Love, Funk and Souuuuuuuul.

The South London Soul Train, Runs 11pm - 4am at premier venues across London town. Entry £5-15 Adv from RA or £15 OTD at PECKHAM LEVELS.
